Nov 9th - 14th

In Our Family This Week...
* Crazy, Stressful week for dad at work!
* Mom had a Presidency Meeting
* Seth had a Dentist Appointment (no cavities! yay!)
* August worked 50 hours
* Ben had another party/get together with friends
* We cleaned out the 3rd garage on the back of the property
* Mom and dad attended Stake Training and the Adult session of Stake Conference

In Our Homeschool This Week:
* Enrichments on Service, Following the Spirit, and Faith - coupled with songs and scriptures
* Finished our read aloud of "Lafcadio, the Lion Who Shot Back". It was a silly and cute book and we all enjoyed it!
* Learned all about Veteran's Day! Talked about the veterans in our family (+ extended) and then we pulled out dad's scrapbook from when he was in Iraq and read all of the stories and looked at the pictures. The public school was out for the day so we had Teagan and his brother, Mitch, join us for our lessons for the day.
* Mom and the girls finished a Nancy Drew chapter book together
* Mom and Nathan finished a Magic Treehouse Book and started another one
* Rabbit Trails this week took us on a Safari and what sort of animals we might see on one. We also studied Lions (which then took us on a further Rabbit Trail down the road on a nature hike to find a Snake skin that Aubrie thought she'd seen. Turned out to be just a dead Garter Snake but we examined it and then looked up facts about him!), Discussed what a "Fable" is and then read some of Aesop's Fables (of course after learning a little bit about him!)
* Ben wrote about 10K words on his novel this week!

Spiritually Speaking...
It was our Stake Conference this weekend. After enjoying a wonderful Adult Session on Saturday night, we were spiritually uplifted as a family on Sunday. A few of the talks really touched me. The 1st Counselor in the Stake Presidency shared how he recently read an article that explained that the reasons kids ask "Why?" is not necessarily because they are wanting to gain more understanding but rather to change their options (whether it be having a "no" changed to a "yes" or vice versa)... I hadn't ever heard this before, but truthfully, I think I fully agree with that article! Anyway, he went on to liken that to ourselves and how it is OK to question things or to have doubts IF we are truly looking for further understanding and not just because we don't like the counsel being given.

We were also able to hear from Bro and Sister Osguthorpe (the Temple President and his wife) and they did a remarkable job talking on the Temple.  And then our Stake President talked about examining our lives and examining our feelings about the Sabbath Day and how we need to give it back to the Savior where it belongs. He touched on how Isaiah called the Sabbath a "Delight" and counseled us to have a Family Council on how we can make the Sabbath day holy and make it a delight for us. In his closing he plead with us "to do what we have to do to put the Savior as the priority in our life on the Sabbath."

I came away from Stake Conference being edified and spiritually nourished and with a renewed motivation to make the Sabbath more of a delight for our family!
