Oct 26th - November 1st

In Our Family This Week...
* Mom did 4 appointments of Visiting Teaching
* Nathan, Aubrie and Lexi all had dentist appointments... They did great and ZERO cavities!
* Ben had a little get together with some friends on Friday Night
* Dad went to iMagicon with Mike Van Bibber and Brian Selby. He went in costume as Wilson Fisk (the Kingpin from Daredevil).
* HALLOWEEN!! The girls and Nathan (with Dad's help) carved pumpkins. August, Seth and the Missionaries worked on a HOT Chili recipe. We attended the Ward's Trunk-or-Treat and then we took the kids around some of the houses by the church. They all came home with mounds of candy!

In Our Homeschool This Week...
Enrichments: Singing, Scriptures, the story of Samson, we took some time to discuss their parts from the Primary Program last week, we went over the Plan of Salvation and I had the kids explain it to me, we took a fun online quiz where a quote is given and you are to decide if it was said by a Disney Princess or the Prophet. We did pretty good and only missed a couple!
Math: Counting money, Word Problems, Square Roots, Mental Math, Archimedes Principle and learned about finding volume and density of things, Odd Squad
Science: The kids discovered an "oldie but goodie" on Netflix: Zobomafoo! So they watched episodes on Snakes, Bears and Foxes. Learned about the Science behind buttermilk, and the girls read books on Sea Creatures, Dinosaurs and Jellyfish.
History: We learned the History of Marshmallows and the Circus. Watched a video on how Lion  Trainers train Lions and Tigers and then watched a circus act.
ELA: Different sounds of /y/, cursive practice, upper/lower case alphabet matching and beginning letter sounds, alphabetical order, sight words, read aloud (Harry Potter and Lafcadio, the Lion who shot back), sentence structures, blogging (Aubrie) and of course novel writing.
Other:  Attended the Halloween Craft activity at the Library, Made homemade Marshmallows. Celebrated National Chocolate Day with homemade Hot Cocoa. We made our own Buttermilk (Seth went on to experiment with making his own whipped cream) and the kids spent time making Halloween costumes for all of their "pets" (aka: stuffed animals!). We learned how to make our own juggling balls out of rice and balloons and then afterward practiced our juggling skills! Oh, and some big news.... the Art Contest that the girls entered... Lexi took 1st place and Aubrie took 2nd! The judges sent me an email and commented on how they were impressed with the amount of detail that was in their pictures for someone their age :)

Spiritually Speaking...
Today is Fast Sunday. The purpose of my Fast today is to give thanks to Heavenly Father. While things aren't always perfect in my life (and sometimes things are hard!) I still feel so incredibly blessed to have have the life I do! I feel happy to wake up each day and to be able to teach the kids here at home! I love having them with me and us all being together as a family day in and day out! I'm also fasting to specifically thank Heavenly Father for helping me and giving me the strength to overcome my temptations to sugar! I have been sugar-free (including sugar substitutes and artificial sweeteners) for 18 days now! I have been consciously praying for help in this area and definite powers from above have been helping me get through the days! Even with Halloween being yesterday, I was able to have fun and celebrate and not feel "left out" or depressed that I "can't" have any <-- which is amazing! I just have been feeling so full of gratitude for help in this area of my life and so I wanted that to be the purpose of my fast.

ps: It turns out that August's new Primary assignment is teaching Nathan's class! I'm excited (yet nervous for August) since that is a rough and rowdy class!
