Happy New Year! This is the final week of 2021 and we packed in a lot of fun while Seth was home and dad didn't have work - yay!!
* We celebrated our 27th Wedding Anniversary! Upon Natalie and Ben's suggestion, we decided to try a little Breakfast cafe called The Broken Yolk and surprisingly it was REALLY good! The atmosphere had a fun vibe, the food was delicious and the pricing was reasonable! We'll definitely be back! Afterwards we thought we'd be 'big spenders' and treated ourselves to the Dollar movie showing of the new James Bond movie. Then it was home to spend with our awesome family. Sadly no pictures were taken of this special day. We actually tried to get a Temple Session for that day but none were available (in fact, none were available until the first week of January)
* We spent time organizing the garage and getting it to the point where mom could park the van in it again (it has been taken over by Rugby gear, hunting gear and Christmas!) During the tidy, we took a little break and took advantage of all of the snow and gave the kids some Sledding Rides being towed behind the truck.
* Thursday morning Dad and Seth got up in the wee hours of the early morning and went Duck hunting. Seth was exhausted and freezing but was glad to spend the morning with dad. They were both successful and came home with a Duck.
* The new Spiderman movie came out earlier this month and everywhere you turn people are talking about it and raving about how it's one of the Best movies ever made! We couldn't miss out on that hype so went to the movies as a family - and we agreed: it was a spectacular movie!
* McKendra's sister, Mehra, moved back to Nebraska this week and that left a lot of work for August and McKendra to deal with an apartment (full of furniture, clothes, toys, dishes, food, etc...) and then the cleaning of the apartment and getting it re-rented. That's a LOT for anyone to take on so we went spent time helping them get that taken care of.
* New Years Eve and August's 25th Birthday! The boys all worked and we had a very quiet celebration. August did come over after work and we had all sorts of yummy food and cake. Nathan attended the multi-stake NYE Dance and enjoyed himself. We watched the live stream of the Idaho Potato Drop to ring in the New Year!
Spiritually Speaking...
As the year came to a close we gathered the family around and started brainstorming on goals for we could set - both as individuals and as a family. We'll base these around the 4 categories of the "Children and Youth" program at church (Spiritual, Physical, Social and Intellectual) Once they are all solidified, I'll be sure to share them. Afterwards, Dad had felt inspired to do a lesson on The Tree of Life from Lehi's vision. So we watched the live-action video that the church put out and then talked about where each of us are in regards to the Tree of Life and where we want to be/stay, etc... It's so sad that so many of our friends and acquaintances have left the church and it can make one wonder 'Am I missing something? What am I not seeing that they are that makes them leave?" After discussing Lehi's Vision, we see that people partaking of the fruit and then being ashamed (upon seeing the mocking of those in the Great and Spacious building) has been happening for thousands of years! However, previous generations didn't have social media where those that left broadcasted their story for all to hear. If there was no social media, we'd have no idea if/when people left the church unless they were in your own Ward and you witnessed it! Anyway, we had a great discussion about it and took inventory of our own journey back to Heavenly Father.
