In our family this week... John and August did a 50 mile bike ride for the Cycling Merit Badge. They took a few other boys from our ward that also needed to get this done. They forgot sunblock and both got FRIED! This ended up putting a damper on our Tri training since John couldn't really move for a few days.  We had a "Block BBQ" on Monday - hosted by Jackie and Jeff Rigby for Memorial Day.  We also had Cousin Phillip Merrill's wedding on Saturday.  I was the photographer.  I also had a baby shower on Saturday morning for friend - Mikelle Richeson.  August has also been out at the Vogt farm all week working (Irrigation and feeding the animals) while Grandpa is out of town. And to top it off, it was the Father/son campout for our ward. John took Seth, Ben and Nathan and they just went up for Friday evening.  John had to be at work by 7:30am on Saturday so when everyone retired to their tents, they just drove home - arriving a little before 1am.

In our Homeschool this week... August and Seth have started football from 8-10:30am. While they are gone, I have been doing school with Ben. We have been learning more multiplication facts - specifically the 9's. We also did some addition/subtraction review and a Money review day. We've still be doing copywork or dictation to work on his handwriting and sentence structure - as well as spelling. We've been copying out of Narnia and the dictation is just what I come up with (using words he struggles with for spelling).  Our history comes from Story of the World vol. 1 and this week I came upon a few blogs that have done additional activities using the book so I'm excited to incorporate them. With the public school out for the summer, we've taken this week a little lighter so that Ben could be out playing with his friends. Seth has decided on a fast track summer course of
Algebra 2. There are 96 lessons in the course and he completed 9 this past week - attaining 100% on every lesson quiz. He also finished another book. His summer schedule will primarily consist of math and reading. Since August was at Grandma and Grandpa's house this week, I did no formal schooling with him. He did some writing assignments while he was gone and also read. I figured he was gaining some "real life" lessons there on the farm!
The 3 little ones and I do learning all throughout the day.  We played LOTS of games - I introduced UNO to Nathan and Aubrie this week which was fun!  We also did several puzzles each day and lots of letter work (sometimes using online resources or books/games that we have).  Nathan comes to me each day asking to "do his letters" which is really cute! They also helped me with the cooking this week and measuring/stirring.  and of course, books were read all throughout the week.

My favorite thing this week was... We had our annual "End of School/Beginning of Summer" BBQ and Pool Party for our joint mutual activity.  I really enjoy the people I serve with and working with the girls! On Thursday was the monthly "Mother's Meeting" for the LDS Homeschool group that I belong to.  Going to those is always uplifting and fun!

What's working/not working for us... Like I mentioned earlier, August and Seth are in Football now M-Th. While this is great giving them their PE credit and keeping them active - it has interrupted our regular morning routine. I've got to figure out a better schedule on things. In theory it works to do Ben's school while they're gone and then do our morning chores all together once they're home (by about 11ish) and then having the boys work on school after lunch (with Enrichment all together starting this out).  On paper it works.  In real life... it hasn't gone as smoothly as I was hoping.  Mostly our Enrichment time got X'd <-- not a good thing.  I'm sure that's the biggest reason why the days weren't particularly working out for us.

I'm grateful for... It might sound silly, but I'm grateful that Trek is in 4 days so that we can have it done with early in the summer! It has been a little bit of a stress getting ready for it!  I'm certain that it will be an awarding time! I'm also grateful for Anne (grandma) for taking the 4 little ones from Wed night thru Saturday afternoon while we are gone.

My goals this week...  (1) finish packing for Trek   (2) Enrichment time with the boys EACH day!   (3) do a Brick on Tuesday, Swim on Monday and run on Wed for our training.

Photos or Videos from the week I'd like to share...
