In our family this week... This week can be summed up with one word: TREK! The entire was consisted of prepping for Trek, buying for Trek, packing for Trek and then finally - leaving for Trek! John and I went to be a Ma and Pa of one of the families (there were 32 families in all) and August and Seth both went. We had our gear turn in on Wednesday night (for Mutual) and then met back at the church at 7am on Thursday morning. John and I were assigned a good group of kids for our family (5 boys and 3 girls... 4 of which were from our ward). We did a total of 18 miles over 2 days and truthfully it was HARD! Yet very rewarding. My feet hurt really bad - as did my thighs but we all made it safely. We had all sorts of crazy weather - 40mph winds, rain, hail, hot and cold! It definitely kept us guessing on what would be next! The wind blew all of the dust all over us and by the end of the first day we all looked like we had a mask of dirt on us (see photos below!). I was asked to be one of the official Trek photographers (there was also Bro. Stiles taking photos) and I was able to capture some really neat images! The stake really put a lot of effort into it and it showed! We all pretty much collapsed on Saturday afternoon when we returned. Grandma kept the 4 little ones while we were gone... I know it was really hard for you - but she is so wonderful to help us out!!
In our Homeschool this week... August and Seth had Football camp this week so they were gone pretty much the entire day - especially August leaving the house by 7:30am and not getting home until 5:30pm! So needless to say - the older boys did not do much schooling. Seth did a few Algebra lessons and August practiced on his guitar some. Ben did his schooling each morning with me but nothing too exciting beyond the regular math, history and dictation. The 3 little ones played some games with me and worked more on their letters. It was such a hectic week that we didn't even make it to the library!
My favorite thing this week was... even though it was really tough - my favorite thing was week was going on Trek! I loved seeing August and Seth throughout the days and it really gave me such an appreciation for what our ancestors went through! It was even more special that we were all able to "trek" for a direct ancestor on John's side of the family.
I'm grateful for... our Pioneer heritage! During Testimony meeting I kept thinking in my heart how I wanted to tell our ancestors how GRATEFUL I was for them and their sacrifices and immediately the thought came over me very strongly that they were given the privilege of looking down upon us and seeing us pay tribute them! I imagine we gave them a good chuckle with the medical vehicle and water truck and port-a-potties following behind us!
My goals this week... Keep on working out with Ben and the 3 littles each morning followed by 1-2 hours of School with Ben. The older boys are still going to be involved with football and working out at the farm this week so not sure how much school we'll get done with them. In regards to physical goals: This is the last week before our Triathlon. We will do one more day of a brick and then a swim in the lake on Thursday. I'd also like to continue on with 100oz of water/day and tracking my food intake.
