In Our Homeschool This Week...
* We had our FIRST WEEK of school! Yay!
* It went AWESOME!
* We are doing 6 week cycles of school - with a week off in between
* We are knee deep in our Lewis & Clark Unit Study (it was particularly fitting since the first day we started our studies was Meriwether Lewis' birthday!)
* We illustrated and created a Timeline
* We made Salt Dough maps and then painted them to show which route Lewis and Clark Took. We also studied about map makers and how to read a map and why they are important
* We read a book written in the perspective Lewis' dog and then discussed Points of View. The 3 older boys then either wrote an essay or gave an oral presentation of another persons Point of View along the Lewis and Clark Trail
* We discussed journaling and why it was important to the Corp of Discovery. We also read excerpts from Lewis and Clark's journals
* We learned about many (of the 300) plants and animals that they discovered!
* The girls did several lessons in their All About Reading
* The girls LOVE doing worksheets and so I have a folder for each of them with an assortment of "assignments" that they do each day while I am working one-on-one with Ben and Nathan
* We've introduced LIVELY LETTERS to both Ben and Nathan and it has gone incredibly well! I have worked with Nathan for YEARS on letter sounds to no avail... He has committed to memory TEN letter sounds this week!! and he has been able to remember ALL of them!!
* Seth and August's BYUI classes don't start until September 15th - but they are doing their other classes. They are both doing Biology. August is continuing his Algebra 2 class, and he is also signed up for a "Video Game and Entrepreneur" class starting on August 8th. Seminary will also start back up for the both of them after Labor Day.
* We've started All About Spelling with Ben and it is going really well!
Some Pics from our week...
I assigned each older boy a year and then the 3 youngers all worked together on a year. They drew pictures to illustrate important events that occurred. They then shared with the rest of us what that even was and put it up on the timeline...
