December 15th - 21st

In Our Family This Week...
* Got the Suburban back from the shop and it's been running great! Even better was the under $200 final bill :)
* Dad worked like a maniac this week! consecutive 16-18 hour days :(
* Seth went out with the Missionaries
* We had a scary few days with Steve! On Tuesday, he basically became unresponsive and went to sleep (without moving, eating, drinking or going to the bathroom) for 36 hours! We were fairly certain he was going to be leaving us and had all of the kids say "Goodbye" to him. Lots of tears were shed and no one wanted to leave his side. On Wednesday evening, he gingerly got up and went to the door to be let out to the bathroom and then drank some water (but then went right back to laying down and wouldn't move nor eat). On Thursday, we made an "Urgent Care" appointment at the Vet's and took him in that afternoon. After a full set of X-Rays and Blood work, it was determined that he was NOT in end stage liver failure (which is what we suspected since he had a "bad" liver) but that he was running a high fever and had swallowed a straight pin (that they thought possibly had punctured his stomach and was leaking abdominal fluid). The treatment was suggested that he stay overnight and have his stomach scoped for the pin, get hooked up to an IV for fluids and antibiotics and see how he was doing the next day. We agreed. About 1 hour later, we received a phone call from the vet stating that during the Scoping procedure, they weren't able to locate the straight pin and that it might either (a) being buried in the stomach lining or (b) made its way through the stomach wall and embedded somewhere outside. She suggested they still keep him overnight on the IV and see how he was in the morning and if not any better we might have to think about doing Exploratory Surgery of his Abdomen. Our prayers were answered and the next morning, the Vet called saying that his temperature was back down to normal and that he had a little bit more energy and even ate some breakfast! They wanted to observe him the rest of the day (Friday) and we could pick him up at closing. When the kids and I arrived to get him at 4:30pm, he looked GREAT! (And still had the good belly) He could even walk on his own to the car (John had to carry him in and the staff had to have him on a Gurney to get him to different locations). He's been back with us for 2 days and truthfully  he is pretty much back to his old self! The kids are calling it our CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!! :) Tender Mercies from the Lord :)
* We had John's Work Christmas Party
* Mom had a Relief Society Board Christmas Party
* Ben and Teagan went to see The Hobbit 3
* Ben met up with his friend, Jared (from Watford City) at the Mall and hung out. They saw the movie Annie - of which Ben was not impressed with.
* Nathan woke up puking this morning and so mom ended up staying home with him (and August was down with a head cold as well) while Dad and the rest of the kids went to church. Mom went to the 3rd Ward's Sacrament Meeting at 3pm and enjoyed their Christmas Program. Nathan has had MANY vomiting episodes today and I'm very much hoping that it doesn't spread through the rest of us! I've been going behind everything he touches and disinfecting it!
* Dad swam a mile at the Y this week! Yay for dad!
* Mom finally got her ND Driver's License
* And it's been surprisingly warm this week! Temps in the 20's and 30's! A lot of our snow has melted (but as you can see from the pics below, we still have a good amount of it on the ground).

Spiritually Speaking...
Last week I inserted Aubrie, Lexi, Ben and Nathan's testimonies. Today we have August and Seth's.

August's Testimony: I've been around almost 18 years, and in those many many years, I've seen the Lord's hand in my life Numerous times. I know he loves and cares about each and every one of us and that he knows us all and he knows our situations. He inspires his apostles and prophets to help guide the members of his church, and he wants us to be happy. We, as the Vogts, have been blessed to have such a wonderful home and a Dad with a job that can provide for us. The kids are truly blessed to have such wonderful parents, and I've come to know how lucky I am that they don't fight and that they love each other very much. I guess I'd like to end this saying that I know I am a son of Heavenly Father and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the one and only true church. I say these things in the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Seth's Testimony:  My testimony can be summed up into four simple words. The gospel is true. There is so much in our lives that point out the truthfulness of the gospel, and I have prayed and it has been confirmed to me through the Holy Ghost of it's validity. It plays such an important role in my life, and everything just supports and confirms the truthfulness of the gospel. Since I know that the gospel is true, it means I have a testimony of the Book of Mormon, modern day prophets, the priesthood, fasting, sacrament, and much more. I have individually prayed to gain this knowledge and have known for myself that it is true. With so much turmoil, evil, and deceit in the world, this is the one true thing that we can turn to. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ; amen.
