In Our Homeschool This Week...
* I felt that we had a wonderful and productive week!
* Daily Enrichments with Scripture Memorization, Preach My Gospel, Scriptures and Stories and a lesson on Gratitude from the "Why?" book
* Daily Read Aloud from either the "Heroes of Olympus" or a short mystery to solve from the "Whodunnit" book
* We studied about the country of Norway (and even how to say a few phrases), located it on the globe and a map and about the culture of the Norwegians
* a week full of fun games - card games, board games and even a game mom made up herself to solidify the "Less Than and Greater Than" concept in Math. We called it "Fishy, Fishy, What's Your Number?' It started off with Aubrie and Lexi standing across from each other (and they were the "Fish") and Nathan was in the middle (the Alligator) and he asked each girl "Fishy, Fishy, What's Your Number?" and after they each told him, he would make his arms like alligator jaws (since that was how we introduced the concept of "Less Than and Greater Than" where we drew teeth on the "<" and it would eat the largest number) and so then he would CHOMP the Fish with the larger number and that that person became the Alligator. They all really liked it and I loved how it got their whole bodies moving and involved in the learning!
* Kept working on Place Values (up to the Thousands)
* Lots of Art for the girls
* Lots of scouting with Nathan - they are switching up the program (and requirements for Cub Scouts) in June and so our goal is for him to have earned his Wolf badge by May so we don't have to worry about re-doing some of the achievements or not having some completed achievements not count
Kids Say...
Lexi to Mom: You are such a great cook, Mom! You should open up a restaurant and call it "The Best Breakfasts, The Best Lunches and The Best Dinners!" She then paused and gently said, "Actually, don't do that becuase then you wouldn't be able to spend as much time with us."
Spiritually Speaking...
Today was such an uplifting and spiritually rewarding Sacrament Meeting! We were privileged to have the Temple President (Osguthrope) and his wife come speak to us. He was recently released as the General Sunday School President and it truly felt like we were in General Conference when he spoke! A couple of points that stood out to me during his and his wife's talk:
* Our Homes are the only other place on earth that can be as Holy as the Temple
* We should emulate how we talk (in quiet tones) and act in the Temple in our homes as well
* Ask ourselves if we are bringing things into our homes that we wouldn't take into the Temple (Media and Entertainment came into my mind as she was speaking about this...)
* Priorities are set by our Desires (if we want to change a "bad habit" for instance, if we still have a tiny ounce of desire for that habit (over eating, smoking, drinking, gambling, etc...) then we will eventually give into the habit.
* We can not change our Desires.... on our own - we need Heavenly Father's Help
Ask ourselves these 2 questions (the next time we're in the Temple or just reflecting on life)
1. What are we doing that we should stop?
2. What are we not doing that we should start?
Again, I just felt so spiritually fed and uplifted and came away wanting to be a better person, a better wife, a better mom, a better homeschooling teacher, a better daughter of God!
