In Our Family This Week...
* Mom had some dental work done... no fun :(
* Dad went out of town to Bismarck for Wednesday and Thursday
* Seth got hired on at DQ and will be working there with August
* Dad got called out to a job site on Saturday morning and was gone most of the day
* Ben went on the Winter Campout with the Scouts up by Canada
* Mom did the taxes... it was not a happy day. First time in 20 years that we are not only NOT getting back a refund, but have to pay :(
* Suburban is having issues again but hopefully nothing too major (or too expensive!)
* Pack Meeting for Nathan! He was finally awarded his Bobcat. We have been incorporating Scouts into our Homeschooling with him and he's completed 8 electives and some belt loops this month.
* We are all healthy and happy!
* The girls had a birthday party for their friend, Bree
* Extreme differences in weather this week! In the 40's and sunny for part of it and then -30 and snowy for the other part!
In Our Homeschool This Week...
* Still working our way through "Preach My Gospel" for Devotionals
* We got a book of short story Mysteries and have been reading that as our read aloud
* Ben woke up in a bad mood on Wednesday and just wasn't having a very good at all... My first reaction was to just get upset and frustrated with him (for not wanting to do any of his work and being defiant, etc) but as I silently prayed to Heavenly Father to help me have patience, the thought came to me to just drop everything that we had planned for the day and just take him out and spend some one on one time with him - so that's what we did! We went to the Book store where we spent a couple of hours just reading and perusing books and talking. We then had a little lunch date and walked around the mall. It came down to him feeling "left out" of the public school talk that goes on at church or Scouts. He also told me he doesn't feel as motivated to do all that he feels/and knows that he should be. We talked about how I couldn't force him to learn anything and that it needed to come from within himself and how learning can be fun (especially when we're learning about things that interest us... hence the "field trip" to the bookstore to see unlimited learning potential!). After we arrived home, I was just so grateful that Heavenly Father could inspire me to know exactly what Ben needed from me that day!
Kids Say...
Spiritually Speaking...
For August's Science class (from BYUI) they had to answer a question after selecting 2 elements and expounding on them. I really liked his response:
So the 2 I chose
in the beginning were Faith, and Holy Ghost. I learned from both
subjects, which I was surprised because I was thinking I already knew it
all. Faith ties in with everything. If you don't have faith, then what
do you have? You wouldn't have: any knowledge of God, The constant
companionship of the Holy Ghost, Personal Revelation, You wouldn't be
able to lay hold on the word of God, you wouldn't have the lords hand in
learning, and you couldn't be inspired as to what to say when you
teach, serve, and love your peers.
Now to switch topics, The Holy Ghost does so much for us everyday that
we don't even realize it all. He is always by our side, as long as we
are living righteously, and prompting us to do what's good and what is
best for us. He inspires us as what to say and teach, he helps us learn
and grow, and he can testify that what the Lord and the Prophet say is
true.

Ben was set apart as the 2nd Counselor by Brother Joe Costabile. Here are some of the things I remember from the blessing:
* Ben has been blessed with the gift & talent of Talking and being able to engage others when he speaks
* He knows when to have fun, but he was also blessed to be able to know when to show reverence for spiritual things. He will be the first to show that reverence and encourage those around him to do the same.
* He will take an interest in the boys in his Quorum and help them feel involved
* He'll be a great support for the President (which is Teagan)
* As he works and serves, his skills will be increased
* He will do lots of service
