Kids Say...
Aubrie heard us talking how it was a "School Night" and in her sweet little mind, that meant that we were going to be doing school "in the night". She hauled out a table, set it up in the living room and proceeded to put an assortment of learning items on the table.  She then came down to get me stating that she was ready for "School Night" -- When I informed her that a "school night" simply meant that it was the night before a school day, she was soooo sad and let down. So.... we ended up having school at 9:30pm!

August asked Aubrie what she was going to be doing that day... her response:
"Eat burritos, do my vowels, and watch Hansel and Gretl."

Spiritually Speaking...
I have been continuing on into my 2nd month with my study on the Atonement. I have learned sooooo much over these past weeks and am so grateful for a deeper understanding of this matchless gift from the Savior. One morning I read the conference talk "Personal Strength Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ" by Richard G Scott and ended up with 3 pages of notes! Some of the things that stood out to me:

* The Lord sees weaknesses differently than he does rebellion. The Lord warns that unrepentant rebellion will bring punishment, yet when he speaks of weaknesses, it is always with mercy.

* Many of us have allowed weakness to develop in our character. Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we, like the Ammonites, can build "Spiritual Fortifications" between ourselves and any past mistakes that Satan attempt to exploit. So... HOW do we build these Eternal Fortifications? Through Sincere, Thorough and Complete Repentance (remembering that Repentance is not punishment, but it is the hope-filled path to a more glorious future).

Today during Sacrament Meeting, the Bishop issued a challenge for all families/Individuals to take time to read 2 pages of the Book of Mormon and to really study it (not just casually read). We have decided to take his challenge and counsel to heart and to do this as a family. We try to have family scripture study most nights (but it's usually only like 10 verses or so followed by a short discussion of what we read) but I'm looking forward to making our study time more purposeful and meaningful. I know that as we do this the promised blessings (from our Prophets) will be fullfilled. Some of those blessings are:

* A strengthened resolution to walk in obedience to His commandments
* Our spirit of Reverance will increase
* Mutual respect and consideration for each other will grow
* A stronger testimony of the son of God
* An added measure of the spirit of the Lord in our lives and homes
* We will enjoy the things of the Lord
* Power to stay on the straight and narrow path
* Power to avoid deception
* A greater power to resist temptation
* We will have peace, joy and happiness
* Faith, hope and charity will abound in our homes
* Righteousness will increase
* Children will be more responsive and submissive to the counsel of their parents
* Parents will counsel their children in greater love and wisdom
* The spirit of contention will depart

I am grateful for the teachings of the gospel and for the writings of the Book of Mormon to help us along our journey of mortality. I'm excited to dive deeper into its teachings with the kids and to see these promised blessings pour into our lives.
