In Our Family This Week...
* Ben had a Jamboree where his football team did short (15 minute) scrimmages against some of the other teams they'll be playing during the regular season. Nampa hosted it so we didn't have to go far!
* I (mom) had my first Stake YW Presidency meeting - and boy am I going to be busy! But I'm super excited about moving forward!
* Fed the Missionaries Dinner - we had chicken Fajitas
* We found out that Greg Adams (Dad's old boss from the Army) his Missionary daughter was temporarily assigned here to Nampa as she awaited her Visa to the Philippines AND her birthday was Friday! So we invited her and her companions (she is in a Trio) and then Aubrie and Lexi baked up a German Chocolate cake (which we found out was her favorite), got some ice cream, balloons and festive birthday plates! It was a really fun evening full of laughs and fun! PS: her birthday wish came true and her Visa arrived that day!!
* Aunt Kathryn and her boys, Leo & Ezra, came for a visit! They live
up in Anacortes, Washington (about 70 miles north of Seattle) and they
made the long trek down to spend a few days with us! They arrived
Thursday evening around 8:30pm and we had a great time just doing
"normal life" things. We went to the Lunch at the Park on Friday and ran
at the Middle School Track, did some Thrift store shopping (where Kat
found all of the boys' school clothes for this year), went swimming at
the Lake, watched a movie, went out for dinner, had fun just hanging out
and chatting and we even squeezed in a quick photo shoot!
In Our Homeschool This Week...
* Another great week! Can't believe we've been going for a full month now! Finding our rhythm and having genuine fun while learning and doing fun projects!
* PE at the Rec Center
* Pics of some of the neat things we worked on this week...
Seth Spotlight...
* Did 3 Service projects. They feed the homeless on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of every month and every Friday they go do ground maintenance at a Ranch for disabled children and then they do a Service project with their Zone once a month - this past week all 3 fell back to back (the Zone service was weeding a trail). He has felt really good about all of the service he's been doing.
*They've found 4 families/individuals to teach - so that is great!
* Went on Divisions with Elder Morrison
Spiritually Speaking...
John Edition
A few weeks back, we had the missionaries over for Sunday dinner. After dinner, they challenged us to take a Book of Mormon, pray to find someone to give the Book of Mormon to, and then follow through with it. We accepted the challenge and were split into three teams - Aubrie and Lexi, Ben and Nay, Mom and I.
Honestly, I didn't have high hopes. Outside of our family, I have two real circles I exist in - our friends (most of which who are Latter Day Saints) and work associates (most of which who are subordinates of mine). It makes it tough to share the Gospel with your employees for fear that they could say that they felt pressured to join the Church and that their job depended on it. I've always been pretty reserved about such things unless an employee sought me out for information about the church. I will say, I've never been afraid to share experiences just not as much on the proselyting side
Anyhoo - the next week, I had a surprise week-long visit from our regional service manager. He had gotten his weeks mixed up and we weren't expecting him until the next week. As we spent time together that week, I learned that Josh Longfellow was an inactive member of the Church who had fallen away seven years prior. He spoke fondly of the church, different books that he had read and loved, the Temple, etc. He still had a testimony of the Church, he just wasn't living his life in accordance to it's teachings. I felt inspired that I should give Josh a copy of the Book of Mormon. On his last day, I took a copy to the office with a personal message written inside. I gave it to him and told him that now that he was in his new position and would be traveling a lot, I figured he could use his own travel copy of the Book of Mormon. His eyes really lit up and he remarked about how he used to always keep a pocket size copy with him at all times and would read it during his lunch breaks. He was very happy to get a copy and I was thankful that the Lord put us in each other's lives. I know that if we can just earnestly and sincerely pray and look for opportunities to share the Gospel, we will find them.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
