In Our Family This Week...
* The weeks are just flying by!
* It was really hot this week - multiple days in the triple digits
* Daily football practice for Ben (felt bad for him in the heat!)
* Mom and Dad met with the Stake Leaders on Tuesday evening and Mom was asked to serve at the 2nd Counselor in the Stake Young Women Presidency. (More in Spiritually Speaking)
* We went to the movies this week - we saw Avengers Infinity War at the dollar theater on Tuesday. We all enjoyed it. We had watched Thor-Ragnarok on Monday (for FHE) to prep up for the Avengers movie.
* Ben has been getting lots better at his driving. We give him grades after each drive and he received several A's and A+'s this week! I no longer have a fear of dying! haha
* Lots of time spent in the kitchen prepping, dicing and spicing all of the new healthy dishes. I've been MOST impressed with Nathan - he has tried (and liked 85%) of all the new meals we've eaten in the last 2 weeks! He has been by far our most pickiest eater and he's been chowing down on Brown Rice Pasta, Salads, fruits, veggies, beans, smoothies and whole wheat bread with natural PB and J! Everyone also has their own personal water bottles and have been staying hydrated :)
* Dad saw that there was going to be a get together of owners of older Chevy Trucks. He thought that sounded like fun so he and Bill went to it - where he met others who had either fixed up old chevy's or were in the process of restoring them.
* We went out and explored the Caldwell side of Lake Lowell (and found that we liked it MUCH better than the Nampa side!) We spent the afternoon swimming and rafting in the lake.
* Dad met up with Brent and Bill after work on Wednesday and they all hiked up Table Rock
In Our Homeschool This Week...
*I just love each and every day of teaching and being with the kids! We had another excellent week and can't believe we've already been "Back to School" for a month now!
* Still just loving the fit of The Good and The Beautiful for us! Reading, Writing, Geography, Art, Spelling, Vocabulary and Grammar all rolled into a perfect little package!
* In Science we continued on with our Water Unit and studied more about the Water Cycle (and then are watching it in action as we built a Terrarium and will observe how the plant will stay alive for weeks with just the amount of water we gave it (before putting the lid on) and that water will Evaporate, Condense and then fall back down onto the plant as Precipitation). The kids also crafted the Water Cycle with paints and cotton balls. Ben continued on his own studies and completed 5 lessons for his Chemistry class.
* In History we're still knee-deep in Ancient Egypt and are really learning a lot of neat things! We've studied the inside of a Pyramid, learned how long and how many people it took to build those pyramids, what everyday life was like for kids and adults, the Governmental structure of their society and even some of their mythology. Each of the kids have chosen a topic to give a presentation on in 2 weeks to further their study of Egypt. Lexi chose The Nile River, Aubrie chose The Library of Alexandria and then both Ben and Nathan chose gods and goddesses of Ancient Egypt.
* Our Family Read Aloud is very fascinating! It's a historical fiction set in Ancient Egypt (so it goes right along with our history) and we've learned about their brilliant tactics of war and beliefs as we read it. The kids usually color or work on their handwriting as I read.
* Enrichments are going well - everyone seems to like our new routine of how we do it with focusing on our Principles Journal and singing. Ben and I have also started to memorize The Living Christ. I'm hoping it'll come back fairly quick to me as I'd had it memorized a few years back...
* PE - getting fit one day at a time! We made our way to the Rec Center several times for working out. We have found that it works really well to head over after we drop Ben off at Football.
* Art - incorporated it into our Science (with the Water Cycle craft), detailed coloring on some Egyptian scenes for history and then designed Watercolor paintings after the inspiration of artist Ton Schulten (who lives in the Netherlands and mainly paints landscapes of buildings using bright blocks of color and flat shapes)
Seth Spotlight...
* Had a service project and helped clear out an old worn down bird shelter. They also weeded a horse track
* Had a Zone Meeting
* He is now in a Biking Area. The Mission provided him with a bike - he says he prefers driving or walking as he doesn't like how sweaty he gets while riding a bike in church clothes.
* Had Divisions with his old companion - Elder Morrison
* When asked what he'd learned this week he replied with: "You can't judge a person by how they look. We are all children of God."
Spiritually Speaking...
When the Stake Executive Secretary called and asked for me (and dad) to meet with Stake on Tuesday, I started having a feeling that I would be getting a calling. On the way to the Stake Center, the thought came to me that "hope you've enjoyed your break (being in Nursery) because that's about to be over!" As they extended to call to be the 2nd Counselor in the Young Women Presidency the Spirit testified that Heavenly Father KNEW me and WANTED me to serve there. The new President has no clue who I am, has never met me but as she was going through the Directory of each ward and came upon my name - she told me that she knew I was to be called and that I would bring a love to the Young Women that was needed. This has happened to me in my own personal life when I was first called as the Young Women President in a ward that had just been created. I didn't know over half of the ward members but as I prayerfully went through the directory, the Spirit testified to me who I was to choose as my counselors. In fact, I didn't even meet or see who my 1st Counselor was until she stood up in Sacrament meeting when she was getting sustained (and I was like "ooooh.... that's who she is!" LOL... I can only imagine that is how it was with the new Stake YW President this time with me. That is just another witness that this (and any calling!) is truly from Heavenly Father. He knows each of us and he knows where he needs us!
We all met at the Stake Center after church today to be set apart. As I walked into the High Council room, the YM President came up and greeted me with a giant smile and big hug! It was the same with the other Counselor and Secretary. I am feeling really excited to work with these women and get to know them all better.
The 2nd Counselor in the Stake Presidency set me apart and pronounced a beautiful blessing upon me. A few things that stood out:
* My past experiences in church and home have prepared me for this calling
* Don't look at the YW as a "program" but see the girls and leaders as individuals and discern what their needs are
* My family will be blessed because of this calling
* Heavenly knew of the love that I could bring to the Young Women
It's been a great, spiritually uplifting day :)
