MUCH ADO ABOUT NADA

We joined the Treasure Valley Commonwealth School - Saints and Scholars Co-op this year that met each Monday in Boise. While Nathan and the girls participated in classes that covered Math, Science, History and Geography, Ben was involved in a Shakespeare and Drama class. The first semester they studied all about Shakespeare and his writings and the 2nd semester they worked on performing a rendition of Much Ado About Nothing (but it was set in late 1800's Mexico and titled Much Ado About Nada). Ben was cast as Claudio (who is one of the lead roles) and originally he was very apprehensive in accepting because he thought with his dyslexia, he'd have a really hard time memorizing his lines. With encouragement he took on the role and soared with it! Honestly, he rehearsed with Nathan and the girls but never in front of mom or dad (so we were a little worried/curious how he was going to do since we had no clue!). The group practiced twice a week from January thru May and performed it 3 times over a weekend in May.

Mom was asked to be the official photographer and come to the dress rehearsal to get some good pictures that could be used as promotion and also just for the families to have a memory of it. Mom was blown away by how awesome it was (especially Ben!). It was over 2 hours long and every single character did an amazing job! On Opening night we all went as a family (Kelly and Stephanie Perry and Stacey Smekofske and her husband also attended that night). And Grandma and Grandpa Vogt went on the Saturday night showing. Ben had a wonderful experience being a part of this and really worked so very hard! Since mom was the photographer, we've got loads of pictures so enjoy a few selected ones that feature Ben as Claudio!
