In Our Family This Week... well, as you can see from the banner above, this post will cover the past 2 weeks! Last weekend I got sick and never was able to find a time to blog so I figured I'd just blog about both weeks today....
We'll go in bullet form format:
* Mom and Dad were able to go out on some dates (which may or may not have just consisted of going to Walmart together!)
* Seth started Driver's Ed
* Ben, August, Mom and Seth being afflicted with illness (coughs, sore throats, fevers, etc...)
* Getting new furniture (under the warranty!) for the Bronco Room
* Refinancing our home at an awesome rate of 2.5% and resulting in a monthly savings of $277
* Painting the new "School Room" a pretty soft gray in preparation of the new bookshelves being installed
* Hitting the 50% off everything Presidents Day Sale at the Goodwill! I scored BIG TIME and got lots of fun books and games for school from $0.15-$1
* New Beginnings for Young Women
and then here are some thoughts from dad that he posted to Facebook...
Random musings and experiences from this dad from this past week:
1. "Aubrie, would you like to pick out a church hymn to sing? No, honey, Gangnam Style is not a church hymn."
2. I wake up on Thursday morning and head downstairs for some
breakfast. Upon hearing noises coming from the garage, I decide to
investigate. There I find Ben and Nathan with a can of flat black spray
paint, turning a Barbie Corvette into a tactical vehicle for their 12"
GI Joes.
3. Feeling wise that you chose a cell plan with unlimited
texts. Shaking your head when you check the stats and realize that your
16 year old son has sent and received nearly 21,000 texts for the month
of February. What would he have done in a month with 31 days?
4. Feeling pride because your six year old hits 50% of your pitches the first night you buy him a bat.
5. Knowing that life is crazy and hectic but I wouldn't change a thing.
In Our School This Week... Lots of games and books were read (that I picked up at the Goodwill Sale!) The older boys learned how to balance chemical equations (which is quite the process, btw!) we have kept up with our mornings being dedicated to family learning and afternoons as independent time... however, I realized that we weren't being as "good" or diligent with our independent work and so after praying came up with Task Cards for each of the kids. At the end of the day, I have to sign their task cards (after they show me all of their work) and then they are able to put the card into their bags as their tickets (remember the "tickets" from a few weeks ago? - on a side note, I have come to realize that homeschooling is a lot like coming up with a successful chore chart... you have to keep changing things up and keeping and tweaking what you're doing to make it work consistently! I'm just so grateful that Heavenly Father inspires to know what the kids need and what will work!) So anyway, they each have daily task cards and then a "By the End of the Week" card that they have to complete. If they don't then they each have personalized consequences to pay.
and then Seth (who does not struggle with Time Management) said that he'd just like 1 card that had everything he needed to accomplish for the week and he'd get it done - so his looks like this:
and here's a snapshot of the other fun things we've been doing over the past 2 weeks...
Spiritually Speaking... I know I share a lot about experiences with the Holy Ghost but I had an awesome one today that I wanted to remember. So, about 3 weeks ago the Mia Maid adviser got called into the Relief Society Presidency leaving a spot in the YW organization. As I started praying about who should fill that spot, my 1st counselors name kept coming to mind - which I would immediately dismiss. However after praying about it for 3 weeks, going to the Temple about it, fasting about it AND STILL getting the same answer that she should be the new MM Adviser, I submitted her name which was promptly accepted and (literally) 15 hours after submitting her name, she was sustained from the pulpit. So as I sat in the pew today preparing to take the Sacrament, I said a prayer to Heavenly Father asking for help on who he would have be my new 1st counselor. The very distinct thought came into my mind that a Sister would bear her testimony today (it was Fast and Testimony meeting) and when she did, Heavenly Father would witness to me that is who I should ask for. Wow! I was so excited for the testimonies to get started but wasn't sure if I had just imaged all of that or not! Of course Lexi ended up needing to go to the bathroom and I told John that he would have to do it because I was waiting for a witness from Heavenly Father on who my new 1st counselor should be! LOL.... So as different sisters would get up and share, I was praying fervently with an open heart that I would receive a witness. And then it happened... a sister got up (whom I actually really like and enjoy her company but had never even thought of to pray about) and as she is talking, I start getting these impressions like "She would be really great!" and "She'd work well with the YW" etc and THEN she starts sharing that in her Patriarchal blessing it talks about how she will be called to work with the youth and that the youth of the church sorely need her, etc. At this point, my whole insides are BURNING and there is no doubt in my mind that this is who Heavenly Father was telling me to submit... so immediately after Sacrament meeting, I submitted her name! The other funny thing is that both of my counselors came up to me and said that they felt very moved by that Sister's testimony and they thought she'd be a great addition to YW. Anyway, I just felt so very known that Heavenly Father would give such direct guidance and revelation to me in regards to finding a name to submit...
