In Our Family This Week...
* Stressful days of work for dad
* The girls attempted to catch a frog (weren't successful - but not for a lack of trying!) They even looked up tips on how to catch them, what they ate and what sort of habitat they came from and then made a terrarium with some food (worms and insects that they'd caught) so it'd be ready for when they found a frog!
* Lots of outside play this week - the weather was awesome in the 50's!
* Enjoyed all sessions of General Conference
Seth Spotlight...
* Had an interview with the Mission President (he said it went well)
* They found the convert that Sanchez had baptized at the beginning of his mission (she had left town for 2 months)
* still asking for prayers that they'll be able to find those interested in hearing their message of Christ
* side note: during the Saturday afternoon session of conference when they read the statistical report, it brought us to tears when they read that that there were 70,094 Missionaries serving and knowing that Seth was counted as one of them! It was also pretty awesome when they reported the number of convert baptisms last year and knowing that Seth contributed personally to that as well! We are so proud of all the hard work he is doing! We know it's not easy being a Missionary but he is putting the Lord first in his life and as a parent there's nothing more we could ask!
Spiritually Speaking...
With last week bringing on a reinforcement to my heart about Enrichment being the most important part of our day I wanted to "shake things up" and so after some pondering and prayer, I came up with the ENRICHMENT WHEEL. There are 6 categories on the spinner: Faith, Music, CTR (this category is for gospel doctrine topics like tithing, fasting, family history, prayer, etc...), The Why Book, Articles of Faith and Scriptures. I then found 3 lessons for each category and put them (along with any necessary lesson items) into a folder so I'd be ready to go at the beginning of each day. The kids took turns each day spinning the wheel and we had a wonderful (diversified!) week of family history, prayer, stories of faith and uplifting music!
and of course no blog post published on General Conference Weekend would be sufficient without some favorite thoughts and quotes from the leaders of the church! I asked each person in the family what their favorite part, quote, speaker or story was and here are their answers:
Aubrie: My favorite story was of the little boy who was hiking with his dad and he was going to climb a rock and his dad had a feeling that he shouldn't. He obeyed and as they got higher up on the trail they could see a big rattlesnake on top of the rock! He asked his dad how he knew there was danger and his dad told him that he had felt a prompting from the Holy Ghost warning him. I thought that was a cool story. I always want to have the Holy Ghost to help me! (This was from Gary E. Stevenson's talk on Sunday afternoon)
Lexi: I liked the 2nd lady who talked after the Prophet (this was Joy D. Jones - the newly appointed General Primary President who spoke Sunday morning). She made me feel happy inside listening to her. She asked us to stay away from sin so we can be happy.
Nathan: The story that touched my heart was of the man who asked a girl to marry him and she said No because she wanted to get married in the Temple and the man wasn't a member of the church. She said that he should meet with the Missionaries and he did. Then he read the scriptures and his heart changed and he wanted to be baptized and then they got married in the Temple. This story made my heart feel good. (This was from Joaquin E. Costa on Sunday afternoon)
Ben: Well, I really liked the talk by Joy D. Jones! I loved how she said that this generation of youth (Me!) is at the front lines fighting the adversary and that we need to have integrity and keep our promises. It was inspiring to me!
August: Sadly, I was only able to listen to the Priesthood Session due to work, but I really enjoyed Deiter F. Uchtdorf's talk - particularly the part where he mentions the Sons of Thunder and how sometimes we need to be bold and brawny and others times we need to be soft and subtle.
Mom: oh my! There were soooo many wonderful, inspiring talks! In fact, I've already made a list of my favorite speakers that I plan on going back to to really study and ponder their words. Some of those speakers and their thoughts are:
* Joseph Brough: Topic of Personal Care Packages to us from a Loving Heavenly Father
* Gary B. Sabin: When we refuse to unroll the "Spiritual Sleeping Bag" when we top praying, doing our scriptures studies, etc.. and we grow spiritually cold. He also talked about "Being All In"
* M. Russell Ballard: All about GOALS!
* Joy D. Jones: Living a sin resistant life and how we can teach our children to do so
* Ronald A Rasband: How to recognize the Holy Ghost and act on it. Also how we need to be "First Responders" to those in need. (I really, really enjoyed this talk)
Dad: decided to do his note taking a bit differently this year... he did more of Conference Art Notes! He did this for every speaker on Sunday and for the entire Priesthood session. I think they turned out fantastic!
